Further Reflections on the Poet’s Inadequacy
I tried to write a poem
about how your hugs
restore me to a place
of peace and warmth,
but the metaphors
were a faded postcard
to the mystic view
of your soft embrace.
I wonder how we managed before,
But cannot phrase this marveling
except to email you a link
to a particular John Donne poem.
For tonight,
I have had it with poetry
but I’m glad I know you.
